Library Rules of Conduct
Windsor Public Library
Rules of Conduct
The Windsor Public Library encourages participation by community members of all ages in the individual and the collective pursuit of knowledge, enrichment, and enjoyment through books, information, and public events. Every library patron is entitled to use the library undisturbed, and every library employee is entitled to work without undue interference. Library patrons, employees, and volunteers should be free from the fear of suffering physical harm, property loss, or a gross indignity. Toward this end, the rules of conduct listed below apply on library property. These rules cannot address every situation that might occur in the library. In unforeseen circumstances, when the following rules do not address the conditions at hand, library staff must make decisions that they believe are in the best interest of the library. Ordinarily, though, the following rules govern:
- Please keep voices and noise levels low in order not to disturb patrons or library staff.
- Please understand that neither the library nor its staff is responsible for the security of personal possessions that patrons leave unattended.
- Please refrain from eating or drinking in the library except at authorized library functions where food and drink are served.
- Please refrain from smoking on library property.
- Please refrain from using a cell phone in the library. Kindly step outside the building if you receive a cell phone call while you are at the library.
- Please wear shirts, shoes, and other appropriate attire in the library.
- Please refrain from using sports equipment on library property.
- Please refrain from bringing into the library items that are too large to fit under a chair.
- Please refrain from intentionally damaging the materials, equipment, furniture, building, or grounds of the library. Intentional damage is illegal, and it will be reported to the police.
- Please refrain from bringing animals into the library except service animals that are on duty or in training and animals that are part of an authorized program at the library.
- Please refrain from interfering with another patron’s use of the library or with the work of library personnel.
- Do not harm, threaten to harm, or attempt to harm library patrons or staff.
Persons who violate one or more of these rules may be asked to leave the library and/or have restrictions placed on their use of library materials. Repeat offenders may lose their access to the library temporarily. Individuals who violate these rules habitually or who threaten or endanger library patrons and/or staff may lose their access to the library indefinitely.
